VASER Technology on KDVR Fox 31 News – Denver, CO
Well, its about time for it. Traditional liposuction can be capable and have you down to weeks recovering but theres a relatively new process called VASER where the patient can actually be standing and awake if you can believe that. Its been featured on several news programs and a doctor right here in denver is one of the leading surgeons practicing this technique. Well tell you more about it now. We edited this down so the shots wont be bad. I keep performing this procedure with the patient awake. This is an awake lipo procedure. We can use drugs to make the patient comfortable enough to be awake and move herself to the table with very little help. This is the VASER ultrasound. Its been tuned to only melt fat, leaving everything else intact. The tip of the probe is doing the work for me so i dont have to rip it. Our end point is when the resistance is gone. Essentially. Wow. Thats how that works. Welcome, doctors, plastic surgeons. This is amazing. Doctor, why is it youre able to stay awake during something like this? We have current types of anesthesia that allows this, one, an epidural. The other uses a fluid with lidocaine similar to what youd use at a dentist but we use it in a much bigger way. Now, doctor, whos a good candidate for this? Did liposuction smooth you out as well as people say it does? There are a number of candidates. Traditionally we thought it would be for the overweight but now were seeing candidates of normal weight that cant in the gym get the …

Liposuction Surgical Techniques
Liposuction is the cosmetic procedure that removes unwanted fatty deposits from your body. There are different techniques used when performing liposuction. The most common techniques are: tumescent liposuction, ultrasonic assisted liposuction (UAL), LipoSelection and power assisted liposuction (PAL). Below is a description of each of these techniques.
Tumescent liposuction procedure injects large amounts of a saline solution into the areas that are going to be treated. The saline will dislodge the fat from the muscle allowing quick removal which helps to reduce blood loss. The saline solution must be injected and allowed some time to work before the liposuction part can take place.
Ultrasonic assisted liposuction (UAL) procedure uses a special cannula that transmits ultrasonic energy to break up the unwanted fat deposits. The ultrasonic energy will actually liquefy the fat so that it is easy to remove through the vacuum suction. Areas of the body that are particularly fiber-bound, such as the breast and back, respond very well to UAL.
LipoSelection is similar to UAL because it uses ultrasound energy to break up the fat deposits, but the cannula is designed with specially formulated grooves to enhance getting the fat out. The fat is liquefied and then vacuumed out of the body. This technique leaves the patient with less bruising and swelling of the skin which means a quicker recovery period.
Power assisted liposuction (PAL) is a similar technique to the tumescent liposuction. It involves using a cannula that vibrates. The fast vibrations help to break up the fatty deposits. It allows the cosmetic surgeon to greatly control the movements of the cannula and so the precision is better than with traditional liposuction. This technique can remove more fat deposits than other liposuction techniques can do and so it is a very popular choice.
With all of these techniques, how do you know which one to choose? Your plastic surgeon will decide which technique will benefit you most based upon the areas that are being treated and the amount of fat deposits that need to be removed.

Tumescent Liposuction: Brigitte Nielsen Plastic Surgery
Defining Tumescent Liposuction Basically, tumescent liposuction is a surgical procedure that is involved in the removal of excess body fat. Both traditional liposuction techniques and tumescent anesthesia are used during this sort of surgical procedure. Tumescent liposuction is one of the many procedures that is newer to the cosmetic surgery line up. In fact, tumescent liposuction was not used until the 1990´s. In comparison to other liposuction procedures, tumescent liposuction has many benefits when it comes to a lessened amount of bleeding during the surgery and a quicker recovery period afterwards. Lidocaine and epinephrine are the two main items that make tumescent liposuction so much different from traditional liposuction procedures. The lidocaine that is used will serve as a local anesthetic to the patient and they will not need to undergo general anesthesia. The epinephrine is what helps to keep the bleeding at a minimum during the surgery, as it will temporarily cause the capillaries to become restricted. With tumescent liposuction, a minimum amount of sedative is all that has to be used. The lidocaine and epinepherine will be injected into the fat under the skin and will cause the fat to become firm and swell up, which makes it easier to remove. The lidocaine will actually be retained in the patient’s body several hours after the surgery has been completed, which will help with any pains post surgery. In fact, the patient will be able to enjoy twelve or more hours of pain free recovery because of the lidocaine. The patient will not have to experience the extreme disorientation that many other patients who undergo traditional liposuction procedures have to deal with due to the amount of sedative they must take. Nausea is another unpleasant feeling that tumescent liposuction patients will not have to deal with in comparison to traditional liposuction patients. There are risks to this type of liposuction procedure, just as there are with any other surgical procedure. The patients will hae to suffer through some side effects such as bruising and swelling. Patients may also experience some temporary numbness of the treated area of skin and tissue. There may be some significant drainage in certain effected areas and there may also be some skin irregularities that result from this surgical procedure. However, skin irregularities only occur in a small percentage of patients and this form of surgery is generally quite safe.
What You Should Know About Tumescent Liposuction
One of the highly effective and safest liposuction method is Tumescent Liposuction procedure. The procedure has been around since 1980. However it is only now that the procedure has become popular due to its accuracy and safety.
Invented in the year 1985 by Jeffrey Klein, M.D. a dermatologic surgeon from California. Ever since the invention, there are many improvements made to the method and results. The major improvement of the method was the usage of dilute local anesthetic where in the conventional method general anesthetic was used. This has made the method the as one of the most accurate and safe methods in the cosmetic surgery field. The method also reduced complications due to anesthesia and the loss of fluid because of large incisions as well as larger instruments.
Compared to other available liposuction methods, tumescent is not a very complicated procedure. In tumescent method, local anesthesia is used instead of general anesthesia. The recovery period is approximately 2 to 4 days. All available liposuctions methods are intended to provide better body contour by taking out excessive fat sandwiched between the muscle and the skin.
With Tumescent Liposuction the contouring of the body is done with more accuracy and with the removal of more fat. It is possible to remove more fat and have a more accurate because during the procedure, normally the patient is kept awake which in return permits the surgeon to sense the patient’s muscle tone besides the layer of fat. This is the major benefit of this liposuction method which allows more fat to be taken out. With the conventional method, the patient is sedated and normally the surgeon would have a hard time to remove the fat.
In Tumescent Liposuction, a small cannula, which is a small hollow needle, is used. It is attached to a strong vacuum and the cannula is then into the fat via a small cut in the patient’s skin. The vacuum sucks the fat from the body via the cannula.
The meaning of Tumescent anesthesia is to use local anesthesia to inject or “tumesce” or ”to make firm with liquid” the fat and the layers of skin. The anesthesia numbs the treatment area as well as constricting the blood vessels in the treatment area causing very little loss of blood and this will lead to a very fast recovery.
As there will likely be very little bleeding and loss of blood in Tumescent Liposuction, swelling after the procedure is lessen and this will help patients to recovery very fast. This when compared to the conventional method is an enormous development.
An astonishing fact about tumescent liposuction is that the method is capable of being combined with available liposuction methods. Normally, in the combine technique, other liposuction modalities will be performed first to slacken the excess fat and then followed by the removal of what is left via the tumescent liposuction method.
