4 Facts About Liposuction Before You Talk to Any Cosmetic Surgeon

Liposuction is the technique used to suction the fatty deposits from certain body parts that refuse to go away in spite of dieting and exercising. It is now one of the most sought after methods of removing excess body fat. Although a relatively safe procedure, liposuction methods are constantly being fine tuned to improve the results. The most common areas of fat removal are the thighs, the stomach and the buttocks.

History

Several people claim to have invented the liposuction procedure, which makes the history a little difficult to decipher. There is some sketchy information available stating that liposuction was first attempted in the early 1920′s with less than satisfactory results. Supposedly, Charles Dujarier, a surgeon in France, performed the procedure on a model from Paris who later died as a result of gangrene complications. This ended the method of removing fat by suction for many years.

Liposuction again came to the forefront in the year 1974. This time it was reinvented by Dr. Georgio Fischer and his son, Dr. Georgio Fischer, Jr., both Italian gynecologists. Using an electric rotating scalpel they were able to cut fat tissue out of the body through small incisions that were made. The tool used was basically an oscillating blade inside a cannula, or a thin tube made from metal. The fat cells were essentially destroyed and along with bits of tissue and blood, were removed from the body by suction. Not as evolved as it is today, the method nonetheless paved the way for modern liposuction methods.

Side Effects

Unfortunately, many early attempts at liposuction resulted in patients experiencing side effects such as profuse bleeding, numbness that became permanent and less than perfect results in the area where the fat had been removed. Different surgeons began to develop their own special methods of liposuction techniques. During the 70′s and 80′s liposuction was constantly being revised and fine tuned. Different equipment was used including various oscillating blades inside metal cannulas, and even bladeless cannulas were tried. The downside to these attempts was that the patient was the one who became a guinea pig for these newer methods, and suffered the consequences if the procedure didn’t work as expected.

Advancement

In the year 1977, the blunt tipped cannula was introduced by Dr. Yves-Gerard of France. Less bleeding occurred, and nerves and blood vessels weren’t damaged in the way of the older methods. It made it much easier for the fatty tissue to be manipulated. The recovery time after surgery was much shorter, and post-operative discomfort was reduced. With much less loss of blood there were far fewer complications to be concerned about. The liposuction procedures were far from perfect as of yet, but the results were better than they had been in earlier years. The surgery continued to be performed in this manner for several years.

In 1985, liposuction underwent a new change with the invention of the Tumescent method developed by Dr. Jeffrey Kline from California. Dr. Kline, a dermatologist, figured out how to enable patients to have liposuction with only local anesthesia. There was much less bleeding, and the skin didn’t appear to be as dimpled as it once would have been. The cannula was much smaller and more slender than the one used prior to this time. The surgeon was better able to ‘sculpt’ the area. Microcannulas used in Tumescent liposuction remove less fat per minute that a larger cannula, but the fat removal is much smoother and the volume greater.

In 1987, UAL liposuction was developed by Dr. Michelle Zocchi. UAL means ultrasonic assisted liposuction, which offered a much more refined method of fatty tissue removal. The cannula was further reduced in size by 1998, being about the diameter of a small straw. This allowed for the procedure to be done much less invasively and resulted in a more satisfying appearance when the surgery was finished. The bleeding was minimal and recovery time was reduced to a matter of a few weeks.

Areas of Enhancement

In the year 21st century, liposuction is a relatively routine procedure performed on a daily basis for both women and men alike, worldwide. The procedure is performed in a hospital or a clinic by a qualified surgeon. Either general or local anesthesia is used for sedation or numbing.

Several different methods or techniques are now used for doing a liposuction procedure. The tumescent procedure is the most popular but other methods are available. They include the Wet or Super Wet Technique, the UAL, Vaser Liposuction, PAL or power assisted lipo, LAL or laser assisted lipolysis, SmartLipo, CoolLipo, ProLipo Plus, LipoLite, LipoThereme ans LipoControl, and Water Jet Assisted Liposuction. The Tumescent method however, remains the most preferred by liposuction patients and surgeons alike.

Liposuction has developed from the early stages of fat removal techniques that often carried great risk to the patient, to an everyday procedure with little side effects, less pain, reduced recovery time, and satisfying results. Thousands of people are turning to liposuction as a method of removing unwanted fat from various body parts after all conventional methods have failed. It is no longer considered to be a ‘risky’ procedure. Patients have excess fat deposits removed from the more common areas like stomach and thighs, to certain parts of the face like the cheeks, jowls and the neck. Men who have fatty deposits in the chest area that produce a ‘breast-like’ effect benefit from having liposuction performed on these areas.

Who should go for Liposuction?

Many people mistakenly think that liposuction is the cure all that can reduce a person’s weight, and once performed can give a person a slim and beautiful body. Liposuction does not make a fat person slim. It’s a procedure that corrects abnormal body figures. As a result, exercise and a good diet program is the recommended method of choice for general weight loss, and only when there are particular areas that need further attention is liposuction going to be an effective method for removal of fat in those areas. The procedures involved have been fine tuned and perfected over the years with results being nothing short of dramatic. Modern equipment and innovative methods make liposuction the ideal choice for improving your overall appearance and bringing about a new you.

What is a Liposuction Alternative?

There are lots of different reasons why someone would be interested in a liposuction alternative. Some people are terrified of surgery because of the risks that are involved when you undergo surgery. Other people are terrified of the anesthesia process and being put under for a period of time. Since liposuction is a surgical procedure there is obviously always risks involved when going under the knife. Some people have bad reactions to the anesthesia and this can cause complications during the procedure. Since there are so many people that are scared of liposuction, there have been a number of alternatives that have been created that give people an opportunity to choose a different option to help them get rid of fat.

Some of the common areas to have fat removed include the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, and chin. There have been other procedures that have been developed that allow people to avoid having to have surgery in order to remove fat from their body. Some of these alternative treatments include mesotherapy, smart lipo, Vaser liposuction, and lipodissolve to name a few. These all work in a little bit different way, but the common underlining feature of all of them is that they do not require surgery in order to go through treatment.

This is a huge bonus for being involved with these types of treatments because they are noninvasive and the majority of them are pain-free. Lipodissolve for example is an excellent form of liposuction without surgery because it involves injecting a chemical solution into the fatty areas of the body. This then works to help dissolve or melt away the fat from your body. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in then it’s always smart to consult with a doctor to see if this is something that would work for you.

Liposuction Body Contouring

Liposuction is used to remove fat from under the skin and smooth out bulges and fatty areas. By undergoing liposuction in LA / Encino, patients can enhance not only their appearance but also greatly improve their self-confidence. Dr. Sanders utilizes the advanced technique of Tumescent and Ultrasonic assisted Liposuction as well as Microliposuction to contour a shapely body as he removes fat cells in the hips, thighs, buttocks and other areas. These procedures can be performed separately, or in conjunction with sculpting other areas of the body.

Dr. Larry Weinstein reviews LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction is a procedure that can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. During the past decade, liposuction, which is also known as “lipoplasty” or “suction lipectomy,” has benefited from several new refinements. Today, a number of new techniques, including ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL), the tumescent technique, and the super-wet technique, are helping many plastic surgeons to provide selected patients with more precise results and quicker recovery times. Although no type of liposuction is a substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that don’t respond to traditional weight-loss methods. If you’re considering liposuction in New Jersey, this video will give you a basic understanding of the procedure—when it can help, how it is performed and how you might look and feel after surgery. It won’t answer all of your questions, since much depends on your individual circumstances. Please ask Dr Weinstein if there is anything about the procedure you don’t understand

Upper eyelid Surgery without Surgery

Liposuction (lipoplasty) is particularly well suited for women and men who are of relatively normal weight but have isolated pockets of fat that cause certain areas of their body to appear disproportionate. These localized fat deposits may sometimes be an inherited trait and do respond to dieting or exercise. Liposuction is NOT the only way to eliminate them. While it is possible to undergo liposuction at almost any age, you will obtain the best results if your skin still has enough elasticity to achieve a smooth contour following fat removal. When skin is inelastic, as in some older patient, it may not redrape well and a skin tightening procedure may be necessary. You may be a good candidate for liposuction if you have localized excess fat or if you desire contouring in any of the following areas: Cheeks, jowls, neck, upper arms, breast or chest areas, back, abdomen, waist, hip, buttocks, inner and outer thighs, inner knees, calves and ankles. Also known as blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, and gives a rejuvenated appearance to the surrounding area of your eyes, making you look more rested and alert. Specifically, eyelid excercises can treat: Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the upper eyelids Bags under the eyes Droopiness of the lower eyelids, showing white below the

Why Vaser Lipo is Becoming Such a Popular Treatment

‘Vaser Lipo’ or ‘Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy’ is one of the most popular types of cosmetic surgery that people are opting for at present. It began in March 2001 and since this time around 100,000 procedures have been performed in countries all around the world. Up to the time of writing there has been no evidence to suggest that any adverse effects are linked to the treatment. Since it began it has received some very good media coverage. It is one of the new ‘minimally invasive’ cosmetic treatments that are now on offer.

The procedure of Vaser Lipo is unique in as much as it is the only type of fat reducing treatment that works by using sonic waves to get rid of fat. These sonic waves, which are delivered through small probes of a modern design, actually liquefy fatty matter which then separates itself from the body’s fat cells. This liquefied fat is then removed from the patients body’s via tiny cannulae. These measure within the region of one to two millimetres in diameter. During this process absolutely no heat is generated whatsoever.

The Vaser Lipo treatment is suitable for either men or women. The technique was specifically created for use on both small areas such as the face or neck and also on larger areas like the breasts, buttocks, legs and abdomen. When a large area is being worked on, the sonic waves are spread outwards accordingly. It is well within the capabilities of Vaser Lipo to remove up to two litres of fat in one procedure without causing any danger to the patient.

People who want to undergo cosmetic surgery are choosing Vaser Lipo for several reasons. The recovery time is remarkably fast, usually only two or three days. The discomfort experienced by the patient after having undergone the procedure is minimal. There is normally only a very small amount of bruising and the risk of any scarring is virtually unheard of. They will only experience a small degree of tiredness and there will be less need for any follow-up treatments. Rather than needing to have a general anaesthetic, the procedure requires only a local one. Patients find this appealing because general anaesthetic has always been known to have some risks attached to it.

In September 2002 in the United States the Vaser Lipo System received clearance from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for body contouring.

Within the world of cosmetic surgery many surgeons are heralding Vaser Lipo as being one of the best new treatments available at present. Results of a survey performed last year concluded that around ninety-five per cent of cosmetic surgeons would recommend Vaser Lipo to their colleagues or to other cosmetic surgery clinics. Cosmetic surgeons find it to be a very easy technique to work with. Due to the use of the ultrasound technique Vaser Lipo does not have any detrimental effect on any healthy surrounding tissues. The procedure improves on ‘skin tightening’ and produces more natural looking results than more traditional methods of Liposuction.

Vaser Lipo – A Modern Approach to Cosmetic Surgery

Vaser Lipo, which stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance, is a modern and highly regarded technique in the world of cosmetic surgery.

Initially you will need to consult a surgeon and discuss whether or not Vaser Lipo is the right treatment for you. If you have already looked into it yourself then you have probably read and heard enough about it to think that it is suitable. Even so, the first step will be to speak to someone who actually performs it. If it is decided that you are going to undergo Vaser Lipo then you will want to know exactly how the operation actually takes place.

Through some very small punctures in the skin (in the area that is being operated on) minute probes will be inserted. Through these probes ultrasonic waves are then released. These waves can vary to the amount required depending on how large an area is being treated. The fatty matter that is attached to the fat cells in that area is then liquefied by the energy that these ultrasound waves create. Small cannulae that are inserted into the target area will then transport the fat from the patient’s body. No heat is generated during the Vaser Lipo procedure whatsoever. This same method can be used for both small areas of the body or much larger ones. It is possible to sculpt a large area in just one single operation. Up to two litres of fat can be removed in one Vaser Lipo procedure which is a very impressive amount indeed.

Whether you are considering Vaser Lipo for small areas such as your neck and face or for much larger areas such as your abdomen, buttocks or back, then there is a lot to be said for the procedure.

As described already, Vaser Lipo is a ‘minimally invasive’ treatment. There is no need for the use of scalpels or any other medical instruments that can leave nasty scarring. Previous types of cosmetic surgery have been heavily reliant on the ‘suction method’. This is not required in the Vaser Lipo technique. The only anesthetic used in the procedure is a local one. A general anaesthetic is unnecessary because very little discomfort is involved with the operation. You can also expect to fully recover within a matter of a few days. There should only be a very small amount of bruising or discomfort of any kind and any risk of scarring is virtually unheard of with this procedure.

On the whole, Vaser Lipo really is a huge step forwards when compared to previous treatments. In fact in comparison it makes traditional Liposuction look downright archaic. Cosmetic surgeons find it a very easy technique to work with and its results have been very impressive to date. Many thousands of people have opted for the Vaser Lipo way of surgery in countries all around the world. It is deemed to be perfectly safe with no known adverse effects and it has received some very positive coverage in the media.

VASER Lipo Offers More Advanced Treatment With Faster Recovery Times

The latest liposuction surgery available today is vaser lipo (abbreviation for liposuction). Widely seems as the gentlest and most powerful form of liposuction, the results have impressed both the medical profession and patients who have had the treatment.

Vaser is an acronym for vibration amplification of sound energy and resonance and the science behind it lies in its selectivity i.e. it can be very precisely targeted.

Vaser Lipo makes use of ultrasound energy which breaks up fat in the body. Its great advantage is that it leaves veins, nerves and local connective tissue intact. This in turn gives smooth results together with faster healing, and causes less pain than more traditional treatments. Swelling and bruising are minimised

Men also seek help with such treatments and typically the areas they are looking for improvement on are love handles and male breasts, whereas women normally request work on their abdomen, thighs and buttocks.

Until now more delicate areas of the body, such as chins and knees, were seldom worked on but vaser lipo offers much more accuracy and these areas can now be treated successfully.

The first part of the process is to melt or dissolve body fat using ultrasound which is delivered to the target area using grooved probes. These help turn fat into liquid which is then removed using suction and massage. The ultrasound only works on fatty cells and simply bounces off nerves, blood vessels and other body tissue. This is why there is much less damage to the body and why recovery times are better. However a local anaesthetic is needed

Results are very quick and all swelling associated with the procedure takes about 7 days to settle and, over the coming months, skin naturally tightens.

In order to demonstrate the improved medical technique a recently published report stated that people having vaser lipo, do not suffer from conditions such as seroma, skin induration or necrosis which have all been associated with earlier liposuction methods. Compared to other types of liposuction treatment, the amount of fat to be removed can safely be increased.

David Johnstone reports on new technologies and in particular, how they affect the cosmetic surgery industry. Vaser lipo treatment can be researched here.
